Flow Control Devices: The SAGD Revolution

Presented by: Reservoir and Production

November 20-2017

ABSTRACT

Existing injector and producer liner and tubing designs do not consistently promote ideal SAGD steam chamber development/conformance due reservoir heterogeneity.   Flow control devices (FCDs) have been identified as a possible solution to promote temperature conformance and in turn improve inflow rates and resource recovery.

Key FCD Joint Industry Project learnings are that early FCD designs did not incorporate the impact of steam quality or reservoir quality variation and as a result designs were overly restrictive and prone to failure.  In addition, the operational strategy for FCD wells needs to be modified to properly take advantage of FCD capabilities.

Join the CHOA reservoir and production community for an intimate Q&A discussion on Flow Control Devices.
