CHOA Volunteer Coordinator

Role Description & Details

For over 29 years the Canadian Heavy Oil Association (CHOA) has been the premier forum to obtain heavy oil and oil sands technical, business and industry information, as well as provide networking opportunities through events. 

CHOA is a volunteer driven organization and the success of our programs is tied to the expertise and enthusiasm of our amazing volunteers. We are looking for an outgoing individual with strong organization and communication skills to take on the role of volunteer coordinator.


This part time volunteer position will require approximately 4-6 hours per month.

Duties & Responsibilities

•          Providing administrative support, such as updating files, entering data, and preparing correspondence, to the Volunteer Services team.

•          Supporting & assisting with volunteer recruitment, intake, screening, orientation, training, supervision & recognition

•          Assisting in the development of policies, procedures, forms and supporting documents related to delivery of volunteer programs

•          Assisting with program development, such as: research, comparison of similar services, information gathering, data analysis and needs assessment

•          Increased the quantity and productivity of volunteers while managing the program.

•          Develop and implement a volunteer rewards program that provided incentives to volunteer more hours

What experience/skills are ideal in a volunteer coordinator? 

Our coordinator must have good professional writing skills, is able to prioritize, is calm and pleasant under pressure and in difficult situations, has strong interpersonal communication skills and lots of patience, is organized, has strong attention to detail, is reliable, approachable and friendly, team minded, is able to respond and adapt quickly, is compassionate, creative, and has a strong desire to help people. They must be proficient in Microsoft Office & Outlook, and using the internet, is able to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment and must be able to speak, read and write English fluently.
