Three winners were drawn for our 2018 scholarship. Each received a $950.00 scholarship to be used towards their current studies.

They also received a CHOA 2018 Student Membership that will allow them to attend events and network with our members.

Congratulations to the following individuals:

Jared Armstrong - Acadia University

In 2017, Jared graduated High School from the Edge School for Athletes, Calgary AB, where Jared played defense for the school’s varsity hockey team, and was named CSSHL’s League Sportsman of the Year for the 2014-15 season.

In the fall of 2017, Jared entered the Engineering program at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Jared’s passion for physics lead him to pursue engineering.

Chazz Cross - University of Calgary

I am currently a third year student at the University of Calgary majoring in Mechanical Engineering, planning to minor in Petroleum. My plan for the following year during my internship is to work in the Calgary oil and gas industry. I am very excited to start working and gain valuable experience and knowledge while doing so. Once I finish school I hope to obtain a career in the industry and make my mark on the world. Receiving the CHOA scholarship gets me closer to that goal. I am also excited to be a member of CHOA which will help me meet professionals in the industry. I am very grateful to receive this award as it will help to further my goal as well as help further my education.

Alec Wu - University of Regina

I am currently attending the University of Regina and in the third year of my bachelor’s degree for environmental systems engineering. I grew up in Calgary and plan to return to explore a 12-month internship before graduating.

Once I have completed my degree, I hope to apply my education and experience towards water and fluid management on an industrial scale. My current recreational hobbies include sports, such as, badminton and basketball. Thank you to the Canadian Heavy Oil Association for this scholarship and membership, which will support my future endeavors.
